I am slowly but surely making myself a
cold-weather Disney Parks wardrobe. That is, items that are just a
bit too character-focused or too “young” for me to wear all the
time here at home, but are entirely appropriate at the Parks. For
everyday wear, I tend to pick Disney tee-shirts that are more subtle.
Things that “whisper” Disney rather then “shout” Disney, if
you get what I mean. I've blogged about my XL
sweatshirt-to-accessories project here. Also, a fleece Elsa cape is
almost complete (which I might pair with this set? But it might be
too much Frozen for one outfit.) Then, I bought a white fluffy Mickey
Mouse jacket from Target last year. I think that should be enough.
Maybe a long sleeve tee-shirt or two.
Everyone thinks about Southern
California and Florida being hot or at least warm all the time, but
that's not quite true. There are some cooler days here and there. On
my very first trip to California by myself, I got cold waiting for
the fireworks. It was in mid-November and I didn't think to pack
enough warm clothes. When the sun was out, it was just perfect
weather. Simply fabulous. But when the sun went down, the temperature
dropped rather quickly.
Again, this fleece was from Joann
Fabrics several years ago. Olaf is just too cute! I couldn't resist
his charm and cheerfulness. This hooded scarf from Made For Mermaids
is quite convenient to wear. A hat and scarf, all in one! Plus, it
has pockets! Who could resist? The hood falls in such a way that it
reminds me of a Jedi robe hood, for some reason. Or maybe a Sith
Lord? Let me know what you think. The one minor quibble I have with
this pattern is with the pockets, alas. The scarf is a few inches too
long to reach the pockets comfortably when wearing it. When the ends
of the scarf are going straight down the front of my body, I can't
put my hands in the pockets. If I made it again, I would just shorten
it maybe 2 inches. I would have lined it with my Olaf print also, but
sadly I didn't have enough. But I did have black fleece in my stash,
so I made due.
The mittens are just the Patterns for
Pirates mittens that I've made several times previously. Very simple
and quick to make, and I recommend them highly. Thankfully, I had
enough big scraps to make them.
I am a big fan of matched sets of
winter accessories. It pulls your whole look together and makes it
look intentional. Otherwise, it can be a slap-dash, haphazard, “I'm
so cold, I'll wear anything I can grab” look. That is not the style
I aspire to wear personally.
Thanks for reading!
Yours in hard work, creativity, and a
dash of pixie dust,
Sarah
