The Singing Costumer

The design for my gown was inspired by both the 1950 original animated film and to a lesser degree the 2015 live action film. Plus a little dash of my own style, especially in the sleeves. ( I rarely like how her sleeves are done in the Disney Parks. Especially before her most recent gown restyle. Please see an example of the older parks version below. I'm sorry, but no thanks.) I have always loved Cinderella's strawberry blonde hair in the original movie. But in the Parks and on all the merchandise, she has very light yellow-blonde hair. Not the same at all. Now, for this shoot, I didn't have time or the money to buy a brand new wig. I just quickly styled a light blonde wig I already owned. In the future, I will absolutely commission a custom wig from a stylist. Similarly, her gown definitely is silver-blue or straight silver, depending on the scene and whether she is outside underneath the moon, or inside with bright lights everywhere. I’m so sorry I haven’t updated this blog in months. This was not my intention. But life happens. I was involved with a community theatre production (Stage managing and acting), attended a major comic convention, caught covid again, etc. I’ve also been working on my Children’s Party Entertainment business. Me on my 30th birthday in Walt Disney World.) I’m SO excited about some future projects. Expect some late Victorian shenanigans and some high fantasy. And, as always, Disney Princesses. I may have been bored one day and planned all my projects out to December 2023. Whoops. But I really can’t wait. It’ll be a fun ride.   “I do… I did”      M y plan this year was to do a Disney Parks specific cosplay, and I am so pleased to have achieved that goal. I am delighted to introduce Constance Hatchaway, the black widow bride. If you are familiar with the Haunted Mansion attraction in the Disney Parks, you will know this deadly, dastardly lady. Somehow, any man that marries her mysteriously passes away. And of course, the grieving widow receives all the inheritance from her dearly departed hubby. In each new wedding portrait you see, she has added a pearl necklace. It’s an obvious symbol of her power and wealth growing with each husband. She’s been married 5 times, but she’s looking for husband number 6.       Haunted Mansion is my second favorite Disney attraction. (Only Pirates of the Caribbean ranks higher on my list.) My Youtube video associated with this blog post  I am very pleased to present my Tiki Room dress. The Dress Shop brand from Disney has a 1950's-inspired sundress in this fabric. I do like it, but I don't wear sleeveless dresses. So, I thought I would make my own in a slightly different style. I still wanted a vintage dress, with a tropical vibe as was popular mid century. After much deliberation, I decided on Butterick 5880. It's a reprint of a 1951 pattern. I was so anxious to begin this dress. I don't know why exactly. It's not like I'm heading to Disney any time soon. But sometimes I just “get a bee in my bonnet”, as they say. And I can't do anything else until I scratch that itch. So I thoroughly cleaned my sewing studio, AKA the corner of my bedroom, and set to work. For my first run, I used a 101 Dalmatians bed sheet from the thrift store.
