First of all, Inside Out is not my favorite Pixar movie, but I firmly believe that it is one of the most important films from the studio. I really think Inside Out should be required viewing for children and adults alike. It teaches us that it's ok to be sad or angry for a time. No one can be happy all the time, nor should they be expected to be. Life isn't always happy. Sometimes, Sadness has to take over for a short time. On the other hand, it teaches us that we can hurt others and ourselves if we listen too much to our emotions and keep them to ourselves. Sometimes, we need to ask others for help. And that's ok, too. And especially now, I think we all need to hear this message.
There
really isn't much to say about this costume, since almost all of it
was purchased.
The
Dress is from Hot Topic several years ago. It is just a simple knit
sundress, with the pattern printed on the fabric. The quality is not
spectacular, but it works well enough. The skirt is not very full at
all. I would have tried to find a Disgust dress as well, but it seems
Hot Topic didn't make one. I have seen several child-sized dresses
online over the years, but no adult sizes. And you can buy fabric
with the same print as Disgust's dress over on Spoonflower.com, so I
may sew it up at some point. Her dress is a cute, almost
vintage-style, and I like it. And now that I'm thinking about it, a
costume for Sadness would be quite simple. Just a sweater ( easy to
find), jeans (already own), and a wig and glasses. I may have to
create the full group of Inside Out girls.
Petticoat
was from a thrift store and reconstructed to have a less extreme
shape, to fit under the dress better. There were two layers of some
kind of organza. I just cut them apart and used a zig-zag stitch to
sew on some elastic. For a finishing touch, I added some cute ribbon
over the elastic. Wig is from Amazon. For $15, the quality isn't too
bad, but it isn't the nicest wig I've ever seen. Eyebrows are by
Covergirl; I used a bright blue shadow to fill in my eyebrows to
match the wig. And the eyelashes are from Spirit Halloween, I think?
I bought them years ago.
This
is a comfortable, easy costume to wear and very cute. I am not a fan
of the idea of a full body paint, so I didn't do it. That is the
beauty of cosplay. You, the cosplayer, are in charge of the degree to
which you costume and use makeup and wigs. You are in charge of the
budget and where you want to splurge and where you want to save.
