Flower Girl mock-up

The mock-up is finished. IT'S SO DARLING!!! I'm excited. Here is the front and the back, with (half) the flowers on the bustle I'll be making the final dress in July (probably) and will have plenty of pictures later!

Queen Jane Seymour

I have completed several pieces of this costume and thought I could show them. :-) The inspiration Queen Jane Seymour (Wife of Henry VIII) I love the dark, rich, burgundy/rust color. Looks like velvet to me, you can almost reach out and touch it :-) Detail of the blackwork embroidery at the sleeves The shift The Corset The ensemble so far (with little pockets tied at the waist, which may not be right for this time, but I LOVE them. So there :-)  ) The mock-up of the bodice is almost done, just the sleeves have to be added. Simplicity 2589 was the basic pattern, but I didn't want lacing up the back, so I made the front to overlap and pin together. It should work pretty well.

Flower Girl Dress

My little sister Rachel is getting married!!! Her fiancé's neice is going to be her flower girl, and I'm making the dress :-) The dress we like is the one on the left The first version (made in muslin) is done except for figuring out the how the bustle works exactly.

For lack of a better name, presenting the "Purple Renaissance"

I finished something! Yes! Of course, what else do I have to do when the end of the world is here...again. (Snow is over-rated, in my opinion) This is my beautiful baby sister, Hannah, and she is modeling the Fantasy Fashion "Renaissance Maiden" bodice in eggplant-purple linen. I LOVE this color, it's so rich and vibrant. I caught her off-guard...  Smile! Close-up Adorable back pose The only problem I have is reading. No, really. I didn't read on the pattern that one is supposed to do a bit of drafting and add a specified width to the pattern on the line. So, it turned out too small. I grumbled, made a new back, and added it in. Therefore, those two seams are NOT supposed to be there at all. Oh well... it turned out cute and it's even a bit big, so she can grow into it for a little while. Usually, I cover silver eyelets with thread matching the fabric. But I was too lazy this time. Maybe at some point in the future. If I had read eve

My adventure in the attic...

So, I wanted to post pictures of my sister in her new Renaissance...ish top I made her (finished that same night I posted :-)  ), but she went to Girl Scouts soon after I came home from work. Baby sister not available. :-( So instead, I decided I should first gain control of my stash of fabric. So, first I checked that my tub (thanks, mom :-) ) was big enough: Double check (because two of me could fit inside) Thanks for taking the pic, Daniel And so it begins: The random stuff that was in my room at the time. (the flash was too bright) Starting to fill: Note the cute pink plaid fleece ready to be made into a baby blanket. The blue linen in the center is for Belle's village dress. It will happen :-) Done for now: I'm tired and cold. There's still a little bit more in another box, but I can organize that another day. The attic is NOT fun in the winter. Just FYI. Notice the half-off yellow satin for my Belle ballgown and the sparkly oraganza used for Kirsten's Belle

About me, the purpose of this blog, small print, etc.

I am new to blogging, this is just for fun. First of all, the title of my blog says it all. Singing is my life, and costuming is fast becoming a love of mine. (Should I have called it "The Costumer-Singer"? Which position in the sentence should I put my number-one passion, which is singing? First?) I have a problem. I get these great ideas, and I'm a good overall planner and schemer (but not always dedicated enough to see the project through to a successful conclusion. So I'm hoping this blog will give me accountability and curb my sewing project ADHD to a manageable level. Right now, I have several projects underway. I am (tonight, hopefully) finishing a Renaissance fair bodice for my little sister. I am making a Queen Jane Seymour dress, which is my most ambitious project to date. The shift, some pockets, and the corset (almost) are done. For Medieval Fair, I am making an 11th century dress and overdress ( I was given an almost completed veil to go with it.
